Born in Montreal, I was grew up in the beautiful twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; a completely contrasting environment from the hustle and bustle of Ryerson’s downtown location. Outside the classroom, I have always enjoyed sports as a means of expressing myself and escaping the sometimes harsh realities of school work. Soccer, cricket, swimming and karate are all activities in which I excelled throughout my youth but due to repetitive knee injuries, I have been limited to solely tennis; I am currently a member of the Kew Beach Tennis Club at Woodbine Beach known for extreme top spin and aggressive strokes. Besides tennis, my heart remains loyal to the English soccer team West Ham United of which I have been a supporter for over 10 years. I have a have Grade 5 classical Piano training accredited by Trinity College in the United Kingdom and have taken part in numerous Steel Pan competitions.

Into the twilight of my undergraduate studies, I can say that I have fully enjoyed my experience as an International Economics and Finance student.  Over time, my fascination for the application of International Economics has grown exponentially, creating a global outlook on what is a dynamic and competitive global environment. The passion which I posses for Economics has led me to the realization that as a senior student, the duty is now mine to further foster enthusiasm and excitement among the younger years.

As the Vice President of Internal and External Affairs, my ambition is to facilitate the bringing together of professionals, intellectuals, alumni and current students to enhance the togetherness of Economists in Ontario and most importantly provide the best edification for ICON students. It is essential that our students are equipped with the necessary tools to excel and impress in a competitive job market. By hosting networking events, alumni nights, lectures by guest speakers and panel discussions, the goal is to ensure that Economics students get the best exposure and understanding of their desired work environment as possible.#iconselfie

I work towards bridging the gap between the classroom and the boardroom by giving Ryerson and our Economics program more exposure to professionals in our respective industry. My two ultimate goals on the ICON Course Union are to help our students find the most fitting careers after graduation and to increase Ryerson's awareness in the Economics & Financial worlds.

As a fourth year ICON student, I have had the opportunity to experience every year thus far. This means that I have also seen, first hand, what this program lacks and what needs to be changed. I have two main focuses this academic year.

1. There seems to be a separation between lower and upper years. Joining the course union was the only opportunity I had to meet lower year ICON students. My goal is to, along with the course union, bridge this gap. I want lower years to feel more comfortable around upper years. This will allow them to ask us questions about about the program, classes or professors.

2. Internships. In order to graduate an internship must be completed. After completing third year, I heard from many colleagues the stress of finding an internship. My goal this term is to find out what sort of careers and internships students of ICON are looking for. Afterwards, along with the assistance of Dahlia, we would seek partnership in companies so that internship seeking is easier.

These are my two main focuses this year. This cannot be done without the encouragement and participation of all students. Participation in events is important and I encourage all students, regardless of year, to join the Course Union in all the events that we host.

My goal for the 2015-2016 school year?

To change this:

Person 1: "What program are you in?"

Person 2: "The International Economics and Finance Program"

Person 1: "So the Business Management program with a double major in Economics and Finance?"

To this:

Person 1: "What program are you in?"

Person 2: "The International Economics and Finance Program."

Person 1: "Man,  their Course Union is so active, I'm thinking about transferring to that program next year!"

"Awareness is empowering" - Rita Wilson.
